International Day of Families at Riviera on Vaal Hotel & Country Club
Saturday 12 May 2007
Life in the fast lane demands more than just our brains and wits, it calls for all-day ‘peak-hour’ traffic jams, 20-hour working days, all-night vigils beside baby cots tending to our little ones when they take ill, and sadly, less-and-less time spent with our families and children. With throttling competition in the workplace and deadlines that leave us feeling half-dead, weekends have become even more sacred and integral to our survival and that of our traditional family structures, where quality and not quantity is the key to absolute happiness. Sadly, as adults caught in the corporate rat race, we tend to forget the joys and challenges of childhood, that kids get tired too and need a revitalizing break every now and then. It is not often that one stumbles upon a jewel destination that truly affords one ‘special experiences for special people’, whether young or old.

This premier Zorgvliet Portfolio hotel is an authentically classic and luxurious lifestyle hub on the banks of the willow-fringed Vaal River. As one of very few 5-star establishments in the country that are child-friendly, Riviera on Vaal Hotel & Country Club boasts a fully equipped and secure Little Pony Day Care Centre that offers local Vaal residents and hotel guests babysitting services. This is in addition to the Kiddies A La Carte Menu offered at the hotel’s three restaurants, two of which are named after the owner’s grandson.
Murphy’s A La Carte Menu offers a selection of kids’ favourite main meals such as ‘Batman and Robin’, which is a Grilled Beef Burger served with Cheese and French Fries; ‘Murphy’s Favourite’, which is Ribs served with Chips; a ‘Road Hog Hot Dog’ served with French Fries; and a selection of toasted sandwiches. For dessert, kids are treated to ‘Cookies and Cream’ and a ‘Happy Face Dessert’.
The stylish Matthews Restaurant, overlooking the hotel’s carefully manicured gardens, swimming pool and Vaal River, also has a Kiddies Dining Corner complete with colouring books, crayons and toys to keep kids entertained while their parents dine. Sometimes, kids even get to make their own bread from dough prepared by the hotel’s Chefs. The less-formal Matthews Terrace Café has a stunning view of the Country Club with its flood-lit 9-hole Pitch n’ Putt course that has proven a hit with sporty “wanna be Tiger Woods” kids. The Pro Shop at the Country Club uses this course to host its Saturday Kids Golf Clinics while dads and moms have their share of the Kikuyu tree-lined fairways of the 18-hole golf course. The children’s play area next to Matthews Terrace Café is kitted with a jungle gym, slide, swings and an ancient Oak Tree beneath which Murphy the Mascot sets up a jumping castle to entertain his little friends when they visit during the weekends and school holidays.
Murphy even has his own website and Kids Club from which kids under the age of 12 years get a variety of holiday and entertainment benefits, including a monthly newsletter from Murphy, special membership card, meal voucher for your kids’ birthdays redeemable at any Zorgvliet Portfolio restaurant, special reservation for your kids on Murphy’s Kids’ Holiday Entertainment Programmes, Murphy puzzles, special invitation to Murphy’s birthday on 3 March every year and information on special kiddies promotions before anyone else hears about them.
