Cape Winery – The Zorgvliet cellar is one of the best of the Cape wineries. It stands proudly at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain. Nestled in the Banghoek valley, it is an engineering marvel in cellar technology, bringing innovation and functionality together in order to achieve the philosophy of the Zorgvliet wine estate; “special wines for special people”.
All grapes at this Cape winery are hand picked from the vineyards; the continuation of the cape winemaking process in the cellar needs to meet the same stringent quality parameters.
In constructing the cellar, a new design philosophy was adopted where engineers were asked to develop a winemaking process with minimal intervention incorporating unique elements such as the slope of the land being used to employ a gravity fed system. The approach enhances the quality of the wine due to limited mechanical interference.
