Once upon a time in a land roamed by wild animals lived people we now know as the San and Pedi. They had no knowledge of luxury safari holiday accommodation back then. In fact, the forces of nature were set against them and they had a daily struggle to survive. Leopards and ferocious lions stalked them and they had to compete with these predators for food. Elephants roamed free in the untamed bush.
The rocks still carry evidence of their struggles and interesting culture. These rocks are situated at the Ka'Ingo Private Reserve and Spa where today luxury safari holiday accommodation is offered to explorers of the wild. Fast becoming one of the most cherished sites where their rock art can be viewed and culture explored, the Ka'Ingo Private Reserve welcomes eco-tourists from around the globe to an unforgettable wildlife game viewing vacation.
Background to the region
Ka'Ingo is situated in the Limpopo Province known as South Africa's hub for conservation. Large outstretched plains, Bushveld vegetation, rocky outcrops and majestic mountains colour the scene. The diverse geography of the age old area lends itself as the perfect habitat to more than 350 bird species and 75 animal species. Known as the Big Five Kingdom, Limpopo is a popular destination for nature lovers.
The area where Ka'Ingo is nestled is known as the larger Waterberg biosphere. The Waterberg Mountain Range received its name from Boer pioneers who were astonished by the large water deposits in the mountains. The area received international recognition as a protected biosphere by UNESCO and rightfully so. Many endangered species and unique plant life are found here. The conservation efforts of large reserves including privately owned reserves ensure that the animals and plant life are conserved. Economic upheaval and cultural heritage support are more reasons for it being declared a biosphere.
Ka'Ingo's role in conservation
The well trained Ka'Ingo rangers endeavour to preserve nature and create a working habitat for the animals to be found in the reserve. Cheetahs were introduced early in 2007 as well as 11 white rhinos. If cheetahs are not protected they face extinction by the year 2013. We see it as our duty to protect these and other animals and as such manage the water resources, vegetation and lodging in such a way that man and animal can live together in harmony.
