Be a ranger for seven days
Ka'Ingo offers the adventurous at heart the opportunity to join the ranger staff for seven days under the guidance of Nick Callichy, our General Manager. To give you an idea of what to expect we have given a short background of the experience below.
Arrival
One of the rangers will meet you at the Oliver Tambo Airport, previously known as the Johannesburg International Airport. A light lunch may be enjoyed at the historical Vaalwater on your way to Ka'Ingo.
The adventure starts
You will arise to a scrumptious breakfast the following day complete with freshly baked muffins to greet the day. This will also mark the start of your one week ranger career when you are informed about the whereabouts of elephants, lions, rhinos, buffalo, cheetahs, and leopards. A light brunch will follow and you will get the opportunity to relax until high tea is served. Thereafter you will join a game drive and will then enjoy a gourmet dinner with the rangers. You will also join the night drives used to establish the whereabouts of lions.
The third day will also commence with muffins and beverages after which you will drive with Nick or a ranger to the Dinkweng farm and back on 4x4 routes as part of the weekly monitoring of animals on the reserve. A relaxing time follows and then you depart for another open vehicle drive and upon return you will join the rangers for dinner at the Main Lodge. The regular night drive takes place afterwards.
By day four you will have settled into the routine of breakfast, drives and relaxation. You will track elephants and assess their movements with the rangers. After lunch you will join the team for a weekly trip to the San and Pedi Rock Art sites. After high tea and dinner, you will have the opportunity to turn in early.
The fifth day will be slightly different as you will go on a bush walk through the reserve and will also do a weekly firearm assessment with the team. A traditional bush braai will form part of the activities and evening of spot lighting.
On the sixth day you will learn how our team tracks rhinos and will also learn about their habits. A bush brunch will be the order of the day followed by relaxation and an afternoon drive. You will also join the team for night lion tracking later the evening.
The last day is characterised by breakfast, relaxation and farewell bidding before departure for the airport. If this sounds exciting, book a week of ranging at the Ka'Ingo Bushveld Game Lodge and experience the life of a ranger.
